Common Questions About Working Together

Amy Beth Acker Psychotherapy and Consulting

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

I offer a free consultation so you can ask questions, share what you are looking for, and get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit.

If I am not the right match, I am happy to provide referral options. Please note that due to licensing regulations, I can work only with clients located in New Jersey.

Do you work with men?

At this time, I work with women only.

What are your fees? How often will we meet?

Most clients begin meeting weekly or biweekly, depending on goals, symptoms, and pacing. After goals are met, some clients choose monthly maintenance sessions.

A standard 45 to 50 minute psychotherapy session is $250.

Do you take insurance?

I am not in-network with insurance plans. I am a private pay practice.

That said, many clients use out-of-network benefits. If your plan includes out-of-network coverage, you may be eligible for reimbursement for sessions. Reimbursement depends on your specific plan, deductible, and coinsurance.

As a courtesy, I can submit out-of-network claims directly to your insurance company. If your plan offers this benefit, your insurance company will send reimbursement directly to you.

Please note: I cannot guarantee reimbursement amounts, and clients are responsible for understanding their benefits.

How do I find out if I can get reimbursed by my insurance?

When you call your insurance company, here are helpful questions to ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for virtual psychotherapy with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)?

  • Is CPT code 90834 covered for out-of-network telehealth?

  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it has been met?

  • After the deductible, what percentage will I be reimbursed (coinsurance)?

  • Is preauthorization required?

  • What is the process for submitting claims and receiving reimbursement?

Psychotherapy reimbursement rates vary by plan, so it is worth confirming details directly with your insurer.

Where are you located? Do you offer online therapy?

I am a fully virtual practice serving women anywhere in New Jersey. Sessions are held via the secure, HIPAA-compliant version of Google Meet. Virtual therapy makes it easy to fit sessions into a busy schedule without commuting, and it allows you to meet from your own space, wherever you feel most comfortable.

Does online therapy work as well as in-person therapy?

Yes. Research shows that online therapy has outcomes comparable to in-person therapy in symptom reduction and client satisfaction.

In my experience, many women also find virtual therapy more sustainable because it removes the stress and time of commuting. I also have specialized training in telehealth best practices to ensure sessions are effective and secure.

Where can I find your forms?

Intake forms will be emailed to you through my secure client portal, SimplePractice. The forms include an intake questionnaire so you can share what brings you to therapy and what you want to work on.

You will also receive my practice policies and procedures. All paperwork can be completed and signed online prior to your first session. If there are details you would prefer to discuss in session rather than write down, that is completely fine.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for women experiencing true financial hardship. These spots are currently filled by long-term clients, but you are welcome to ask in case availability changes.
